Brave dwarves 2 is a little
game I picked up and gave a try recently. The game is a simple platformer
where the player controls 1 of 2 different dwarf characters, collecting keys
to pass levels while hording gold along the way. The gold can be used to buy
items such as new weapons and health upgrades in stores along the way. The
player jumps around in a fairly non-linear (you can left or right at times,
then go back the other way later) fashion killing little enemies along the
way.
Brave dwarves 2 does have very nice graphics, reminiscent of the lost Vikings.
The graphics throughout the game are well done, even if the backgrounds were
too dark and drab for my tastes.
This game really didn’t do it for me overall however. The game was boring
throughout, with the enemies proving no challenge whatsoever, and each screen
was repetitive in design, and just full of gold. The game did not have
scrolling as such, but a sort of static screen change that occurred every time
the player went ‘out of the screen’ in whichever direction he chose. The
screens provided no platforming challenge either, due to the lack of falling
damage or ‘pits’ to die in, you could just try again if you failed. I was
never challenged in the game, not even paying attention to my life since the
enemies were so weak and life potions so plentiful.
